There are two time frames during which you can enroll in an RMHP Individual & Family plan:

  1. During the annual Open Enrollment Period, which is November 1, 2017 - January 12, 2018 for 2018 coverage.
  2. You’ve experienced a triggering event, such as getting married or the birth of a child. You can find examples of triggering  events, as well as any required documentation, below.

Triggering Events

If you experience a triggering event outside of the Open Enrollment Period, you can apply for Individual & Family coverage 60 days in advance in many cases.

Triggering events include:

  1. Involuntary loss of health insurance coverage for any reason, aside from fraud, misrepresentation, or nonpayment of premium.
You may apply up to 60 days prior to and after this event. Coverage will be effective on the first day of the month following the event or the first day of the month following application if applying after the day of the event.
  2. Individual experiencing a plan renewal from a non-calendar year group plan.
You may apply up to 60 days prior to and after this event. Coverage will be effective on the first day of the month following the event or the first day of the month following application if applying after the day of the event.
  3. Individual gains a dependent or becomes a dependent through:
    • Marriage/Civil Union
    • Birth
    • Adoption or placement for adoption or placement foster care
    • Court order
    • Entering into a designated beneficiary agreement

With the exception of Birth, you may apply up to 30 days prior to and 60 days after this event. For Newborns, applications can be submitted on the day of birth and up to 60 days after the event.

Coverage will be effective as follows:

    • Marriage/Civil Union - Effective on the first day of the month following the event.
    • Birth/Adoption/Placement for Adoption or Foster Care - Effective either on the date of the event or the first day of month following the event, if requested by the primary applicant.
    • Court order - Effective on either:
      • The date of the signed court order;
      • The first day of the month following the signed court order if signed between the 1st and 15th of the month; or
      • The first day of the 2nd month following the signed court order, if signed between the 16th and 31st of the month.
    • Designated Beneficiary - Effective on the first day of the month following the event or date of application.
  4. Enrollment or disenrollment is unintentional, inadvertent, or erroneous and is the result of an error made by the Carrier, Producer, or Connect for Health Colorado.
  5. Demonstrating to the Colorado Insurance Commissioner that the health plan violated a material part of its contract.
  6. Gaining access to other creditable coverage as a result of a permanent change in residence.
