Celebrate Memorial Day 2019 In and Around Grand Junction | Rocky Mountain Health Plans Blog

What to Do in the Grand Valley This Memorial Day

This year, Memorial Day takes place on Monday, May 27. With so much to do in and around Grand Junction, it’s never too early to start making plans, and here are some of the top activities and places you can enjoy.

Head to the baseball field for the JUCO World Series

Nothing says summer quite like a baseball game, and you’ll have several to choose from throughout the holiday weekend.

The Alpine Bank Junior College Baseball World Series (JUCO) has been a Memorial Day weekend mainstay for more than 60 years. The first games in the series will be on Saturday, May 25 and will continue through June 1.

All ticket prices will increase on May 25, so grab yours soon. You can even purchase a pass for the entire tournament season so you don’t want to miss a game.

Watch the Memorial Day fireworks show at Suplizio Field

RMHP is a proud sponsor of JUCO, and we help put on the Memorial Day fireworks show each year. Even if baseball isn’t your favorite sport, the fireworks show shouldn’t be missed.

To see the fireworks light up the Grand Junction sky, be sure to buy a ticket for the 7:30 p.m. game on Monday, May 27.

Dine on locally sourced food throughout the Grand Valley

The Western Slope has a long tradition of agriculture, so it’s no surprise that there are plenty of wonderful restaurants where you can enjoy local fare. Dining at a restaurant in the Grand Valley is an ideal way to satisfy your cravings for locally-sourced food.

Try one of these local restaurants in Grand Junction, Fruita, and Palisade. No matter which spots you choose, the food will be a tasty addition to your Memorial Day weekend celebrations.

Head to the water for some stand up paddle boarding

Celebrate the unofficial beginning of summer by stand up paddle boarding, aka SUPing. It’s an easy activity that kids and adults alike will enjoy, and there’s no shortage of scenic Reservoirs, Lakes, and Waterways for SUPing in Western Colorado.

Get outside for some hiking or biking

Memorial Day is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty in and around Grand Junction. Hiking and biking are two of our favorite pastimes, and here are some of the top trails and roads to explore on two feet or two wheels:
