6 Creative Summer Grilling Recipes

Unique Recipes For Your Next Summer BBQ

Burgers, hot dogs, and bratwursts are tasty summer staples, but why not try something different the next time you fire up the grill? These 6 recipes for the grill are unique, healthy, and (most importantly) delicious.

1. Grilled Cabbage

If you’ve never grilled cabbage before, you’ll wonder why you didn’t try it sooner.

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 4 teaspoons butter
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons grated parmesan cheese

Slice the cabbage into four wedges, then place each wedge on double-folded, heavy-duty aluminum foil. Spread butter over the cut sides.

Mix the salt, garlic powder, and pepper together in a small bowl, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over each wedge. Wrap bacon around the wedges, or omit if you want to keep the dish vegetarian-friendly.

Seal the cabbage up tightly by wrapping the aluminum foil around the wedges. Grill the cabbage over medium heat for 40 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender, turning two times. Keep the grill closed to ensure quick and even cooking.

2. Grilled Turkey

Who says turkey is only for Thanksgiving? This grilled version from The Kitchn is perfect for big summer gatherings, and preparing it isn’t as daunting as it initially seems. You can wet or dry brine the turkey, whichever you prefer.

3. Spicy Grilled Watermelon

The introductory sentence for this recipe says it all: “A conversation starter if there ever was one, this spicy grilled watermelon challenges an ingrained perception of what watermelon should be.”

If you’ve never had spicy watermelon, then this recipe is likely to redefine your love of this cherished summer staple.

Infused with honey, lime, cayenne pepper, and mint, this recipe definitely qualifies as unique.

4. Grilled Avocado With Shrimp Salad

The list of ingredients for this recipe is short and sweet, but they pack a hefty amount of flavor into a single dish. All you need is avocado, cooked shrimp, lemon, hoisin sauce, and mayonnaise.

You could also experiment with different fillings for the grilled avocados such as a pico de gallo mix.

5. Grilled Chipotle Lime Cauliflower Steaks

Is there a more versatile veggie than cauliflower? Grilled cauliflower is delightfully smoky, and the chipotle lime seasoning gives these “steaks” even more flavor.

6. Grilled Pineapple With Nutella and Macadamia Nuts

Dessert on the grill? Of course! This crowd-pleasing grilled pineapple recipe only requires three ingredients (pineapple, macadamia nuts, and Nutella), and is incredibly easy to throw together. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could even experiment with different nut butters — cashew butter, macadamia nut butter, and others would all pair well with the grilled pineapple.
