5 Things We Love About Grand Junction in the Winter

Things To Do During a Grand Junction Winter

Thanks to Grand Junction’s high desert climate, there’s so much to do all winter long even if you’re not a fan of winter sports.

Whether you’re feeling the winter blues or are just looking for new ways to have fun, this list of things to do in Grand Junction during the winter will have you checking your calendar to schedule some wintertime excitement.

1. Go hiking, biking, or driving in the Colorado National Monument

As any resident of Grand Junction knows, we’re fortunate to have one of the state’s most impressive natural areas right in our backyard — the Colorado National Monument.

You can hike and bike throughout the winter, and fat tire biking just might be the perfect way to explore the Monument after a snowfall. Driving or road biking along Rim Rock Drive is another local favorite when the weather permits.

For more information about enjoying the Monument during winter, check out our quick guide. Once you make the trip, you’ll surely want to return again and again.

2. Volunteer for a cause you care about

There’s a huge focus on outdoor activities here, and for good reason. There’s so much to do! But, you don’t have to lace up your hiking shoes or hop on your bike to have a fulfilling time in Grand Junction. How about giving back to your community this winter?

Visit the Grand Junction Newcomers Club’s website for information about some of the volunteer opportunities in the area. Who knows, you might find an organization to volunteer with for years to come.

3. Play in the snow

No list of Grand Junction winter activities would be complete without mentioning snow sports. You can go cross-country skiing on the Grand Mesa, get in some turns at Powderhorn, or find a hill to run up and sled down because sledding isn’t just for the kids.

4. Strap on your skates and visit the ice rink

For a bit of winter fun indoors, head over to Grand Junction’s Glacier Ice Arena. You can rent skates and join an open skating event, sign the kids up for hockey or figure skating lessons, join an adult hockey league, and more.

If ice skating isn’t your style, consider planning a visit to Spin City Grand Junction. There’s an arcade, bowling, laser tag, roller skating rink, and even a jungle gym where the little kids can burn off all that pent up energy.

5. Tee up at the golf course

There are several golf courses to choose from in and around Grand Junction, and the usually mild climate makes teeing up during winter possible. You’ll be surrounded by gorgeous scenery, and there are courses to suit every skill level, even if you’re just looking for a casual 9-hole outing with friends.

No matter how you choose to enjoy winter in Grand Junction, there’s no shortage of fun, interesting, and scenic things to do.
