If you host parties throughout the holiday season it also means that you'll be spending more time in the kitchen. When you're in a time crunch, just throw together one of these easy and healthy holiday appetizers that will please the whole crowd.
Mini cheese mix cups
Whipping up these little cups couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is buy a few different types of cheese, some grapes, and small foil petit-four cups.
Halve the grapes and add the two halves to each cup. Slice your cheese to fit and then fill the cups with your cheese. Reggiano parmigiano, havarti, gruyère, and asiago cheeses all pair well with grapes.
Your guests won’t feel bad about enjoying handfuls of these tasty beans.
- One can of chickpeas, aka garbanzo beans (15 ounces)
- 1.5 Tablespoons olive oil
- A spice blend of your choice (the Moroccan spice blend from this recipe is delicious, but you could also try something simpler, like garlic powder and cayenne)
Preheat your oven to 400° F. Drain and rinse the chickpeas in a colander, then spread the beans over a baking sheet lined with paper towel. Press another piece of paper towel gently into the beans to absorb the remaining water, rolling them around and making sure to get them nice and dry. Remove any skins if necessary.
Coat the beans in olive oil then pop them in the oven to bake for 30 - 40 minutes. When the chickpeas are golden brown and crunchy they’re good and done. Season them with salt and your spice blend, then serve.
Caprese skewers might just be the ultimate easy and healthy party appetizer, and they’re always well-loved.
- 2 pints cherry or grape tomatoes
- 1 pound fresh mozzarella
- 1 bunch fresh basil
- Wooden skewers
- Olive oil
- Sea salt and black pepper
Assembling these is a breeze — thread a tomato, basil leaf, ball of mozzarella, another basil leaf, and then another tomato onto each skewer. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and then sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper to taste.
This quick-and-easy sushi snack is delicious and deceptively fancy… it’s so easy to throw together, but you’ll feel like a sushi star.
- 1 pound sushi-grade yellowfin tuna
- 1 English cucumber
- ½ cup black sesame seeds
- ½ cup tan sesame seeds
- Soy sauce
Slice the tuna into ½-inch cubes and slice the cucumber into rounds. Add a small amount of wasabi to the cucumber. Mix the sesame seeds together and then cover the sides of each tuna cube with the seeds.
Set one piece of tuna on each cucumber round and serve. You can add soy sauce, but another option is to leave some out for guests, just in case anyone has a gluten intolerance. Some guests might also appreciate extra wasabi.
