Not a Morning Workout Person? These Six Reasons Could Change Your Mind

Many of us aren’t morning people, especially when the beginnings of our day involve rushing to work or getting the kids ready for school. With our packed schedules, fitting in a morning workout is often the last thing on our minds.   But, working out in the morning is a great way to start your day! Here are some of the top reasons it’s better to work out in the morning.

1. Morning workouts set the tone for a productive day

After the initial grogginess there’s a good chance your morning workout will leave you feeling accomplished and ready to take on the rest of your day. That’s because exercise increases blood flow to the brain, therefore increasing your overall alertness.   Plus, getting your workout out of the way early on means you won’t have to worry about whether you’ll be able to squeeze some exercise in after work or at the end of your day.

2. A morning workout will make you more likely to eat breakfast

You already know that a healthy breakfast is ideal, and a morning workout will make you more likely to fuel up. After all, you’ll want to replenish those burned calories (or fuel up before your workout), and why would you ruin your hard work with sugary cereals or other foods lacking in nutrients?   Breakfast has also been proven to boost metabolism, so you’ll get a double-win with a morning workout.

3. Exercise boosts energy levels

How many times have you sauntered into the office in a morning fog? It’s not the ideal way to start your day, that’s for certain. Exercise helps elevate your energy levels, and a morning workout can give you a helpful extra energy burst in the AM.

4. You’ll have more time to enjoy your evenings

After a busy day it feels wonderful to kick back and relax. Working out in the morning gives you more time to enjoy the evenings with family, friends, or simply by yourself.   You can use that extra time to socialize, catch up on a good book, take a new class, or anything else that strikes your fancy.

5. A morning workout can help you sleep better

Exercise releases endorphins. Those endorphins can be useful during the day, but they’re not so welcome in the evenings.   If you’re in the habit of working out in the evening it could be adversely affecting your sleep patterns. Try a morning workout to see if it has a positive impact on your sleep.

6. Believe it or not, you may have more energy in the mornings

When you first start a morning workout routine you may battle overwhelming sleepiness. However, if you push through, you may learn to love the energy of a morning workout.   If you’ve ever tried to slog your way through an evening workout after a long and tiring day, this reason could be all the motivation you need!
