How to Write a Group

Working together, we can make the application process seamless and efficient for the benefit of our mutual customers.

Small Group - 1-50 Employees

The main keys to successful submissions of new group applications and ongoing relationships are to:

  • Include all required documentation and a New Group Checklist and
  • Participate actively with your RMHP Account Executive (A/E).

1. Submit all new group applications to your RMHP Account Executive. Your A/E will:

  • review your submission for completeness, making sure that all necessary group level information, including applicable tax documents, is there.
  • contact you if they have questions or need additional items.
  • send your application package for Application Audit.

2.RMHP Application Audit will further review and follow-up on missing group level information and review the submission for inclusion of all necessary member level documents. You will work directly with Application Audit to ensure that all documentation necessary for the full Underwriting analysis has been collected.

3. RMHP Underwriting will review the group for compliance with Colorado Small Group law and issue or deny coverage contingent upon verification of the following:

  • Legitimacy of the business - that the group exists as an employer for a purpose other than providing a source of health insurance;
  • Employee eligibility - that the people applying for coverage work for the business and work the required number of hours; and,
  • Other relevant issues as discovered in the Underwriting analysis.

4. RMHP will notify you of Underwriting’s decision. If the group is accepted, it is passed on to Enrollment for ID card issue and to Billing for entry into the system. Groups that do not meet Underwriting criteria will be returned to you with an explanation of the reason.

Large Group - 51 or More Employees

The main keys to successful submissions of new group applications and ongoing relationships are to:

  • Include all required documentation and a New Group Checklist and
  • Participate actively with your RMHP Account Executive.

For large groups, we will need to know as much about the group as possible. Plan design, rate history, carrier history, contribution strategy, claims experience, and an employee census are among the critical components required for a rate quote in the 51+ market.

You will work closely with the RMHP Sales and Underwriting staff in order to create and deliver an appropriately rated product that fits the cost and coverage parameters of the large group client. Providing comprehensive group experience and detail about your client at the time of application will promote a long and healthy relationship among all parties.
