May 28 is the International Day of Action for Women’s Health. The Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) established this day in 1987 to celebrate the gains in women’s health and a campaign for future efforts. Today, both women and health groups hold worldwide activities to educate and celebrate.

The women’s health movement began to take form in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s. In 1984, the WGNRR was formed to combat reproductive issues that women all over the world were dealing with. In the past 30 years, WGNRR has defended and advanced women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. These efforts were made possible through campaigning and educating governments, agencies and civil society around the world.
