‘Tis the season for celebration! However, the holidays happen so quickly that figuring out how to both relax and celebrate can be a challenge.

Hosting and attending holiday parties sounds like so much fun in the months leading up to the winter months. But these well-intentioned plans can cause even the most organized and disciplined amongst us to fall prey to stress in planning or attending all the festivities.

Start now to make sure your holidays don’t fall prey to this common conundrum.

For example, limit celebrations to one a week, if at all possible. Be sure to make relaxed time a priority, to give your body and your family time to rejuvenate.

Also, consistent over-indulging can have a lingering negative impact on both your physical and emotional health. Try these tips:

  1. Limit yourself to 1-2 alcoholic drinks per party. Try festive mixers like cranberry juice and soda to sip instead.
  2. Don’t linger by the food. Pick your favorite tempting treats, but then move away. Being out of easy access will naturally limit any tendency to over indulge.
  3. If you do over indulge – relax! Stressing about that slice of pie or second helping of stuffing won’t help anything. Enjoy!
  4. Exercise. Be sure to get exercise every day. Try walking for 15 minutes twice a day, dance around the living room, clean the house, or chase after the kids. Getting your body moving releases natural feel-good hormones and take the edge off the sensation of overindulgence.

The holidays are a fantastic and festive time! Enjoy them. With these tips, you’ll be able to stay relaxed and calm, well and healthy, and still enjoy this most wonderful time of the year.
